(ANS – Santiago) – Three short films made by students at Chilean Salesian schools have been selected among the 10 best works of the America South Cone Region as part of the 2023 edition of the “Don Bosco Global Youth Film Festival”, the film festival of Salesian youth from around the world. The three shorts will therefore receive a prize of 1,000 euro each.
The selected works were: “El brote” (The shoot) and “Drogas” (Drugs) by the Salesian Educational Centre, Alameda; and “Don Bosco en el corazón” (Don Bosco in the heart) by the Salesian Educational Centre, Talca.
A total of over 540 short films from 40 countries participated in the competition, and among the 52 finalists were also “Don Bosco en el corazón” and “Drogas”.

Their work sought to represent the sad reality of the abandonment of the elderly and the sadness that can be generated in them, but it also shows a glimmer of hope at the end of the story.
The work was accompanied by Jorge Aracena and Javier Fuentes, teachers of Language and Music respectively, who helped the boys with the script and the soundtrack of the short film.
Short film made by the third-year students of the Humanistic-Scientific Education department of the Salesian educational center, Talca: Patricio Jara, Benjamín Ponce, Renato Diaz, Matías Cofré and Nicolás Albornoz.
The work is accompanied by Karel Fonseca, who was the artistic director and proposed the project to them starting from the “drawing and painting” workshop offered by the school.

The project, led by the institute’s pedagogy area, was an interdisciplinary work of the art, language and English departments.
The work for the realization of the short film was accompanied by Gladys Rivera, pedagogical coordinator, Daisy Morales, language teacher, Luis Iturriaga, head of the English department, and Rodrigo Ahumada, head of the art department.
