Understanding psychosocial challenges of young people in educational/school settings and helping them

Don Bosco Kep: The Don Bosco Kep Media Communication Department and the Don Bosco Brother Sun Program of Kep Province, invited four professionals in phycology and psychiatry from the Centre for Child and Adolescent Mental Health (CCAMH) of Caritas Cambodia, led by Dr Bhoomikumar Jegannathan. The program was sponsored by Mr. Gerard van Hal, Don Bosco Hatrans.

The workshop was of two intensive days – 14 and 15 December – with the participations of 20 teachers and assistants of minors. There were representatives from Don Bosco Children Fund of Cambodia: Poipet (2), Phnom Penh (1), Sihanoukville (1) and Kep (10) and members of other children organization such as Together from Cambodia of Siem Reap (5) and Kep Gardens (2).

Dr. Bhoomikumar Jegannathan is a consultant child psychiatrist working at the Center for Child and Adolescent Health (Caritas-CCAMH), Chey Chumneas Referral Hospital, Takhmau, Kandal province, a public private partnership program between Caritas Cambodia, an INGO and the Ministry of Health (MoH), Royal Government of Cambodia. There were also Dr. Ouch Channy, head nurse at CCAMH; Dr. Pat Puthy, a psychologist, working at the CCAMH as Training and Research Coordinator and Dr. Mong Dalin, psychiatrist of the same center.

The training led the participants to understand the different stages of human evolution of children and adolescents, the challenges of modern education, the mental health of minors during this time of technocracy in things like digital addiction prevention and other matters. The works brought also to the reflection on the need of networking withing organizations and professionals to support Cambodian children and adolescents.
