Pope Francis visit to Southeast Asia

1–2 minutes

At the age of 87 years old, Pope Francis is preparing for a long-distance visit to four countries of Southeast Asia and Oceania: Papua New Guinea, East Timor, Indonesia and Singapore. The visit will be 2-13 September and, although concerns for the health of the Argentinian Holy Father, the journey will meet Catholic communities, the poor and leaders from countries and religions in one of the most culturally diverse regions of the world.

Here we share this video documentary by EWTN News in Depth with Colm Flynn in all four countries to get a sense of the issues facing the Catholic Church in each region, and what the Pope will see and experience when he arrives. One of the most interesting parts of the report by Flynn is the evidence of the ‘Silaturahmi Tunnel’ to Connect Istiqlal Mosque and Jakarta Cathedral, a symbol of tolerance and harmony of religious communities in Indonesia.
