On the morning of June 8, 2025, students from Don Bosco Technical School Kep Province participated in the celebration of World Oceans Day. The event took place in the vicinity of the Neaksaet Community, Thmey Village, Kep Province, under the theme “Catalyzing Action for Our Ocean and Climate.” It was organized in collaboration with CWDCC, ActionAid Cambodia, 12 partner organizations, and the coastal communities of Kampot and Kep.
The event was attended by the Secretary of State from the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, the Deputy Governor of Kep Province, the Head of the Provincial Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, as well as local authorities, community members, youth, female community leaders, students from Don Bosco Technical School, and private sector representatives — totaling over 300 participants.
It is important to note that this program was organized to highlight the crucial role the ocean plays in our daily lives, while also urging stronger action to protect and conserve marine ecosystems. One of the campaign’s highlights is the “100,000 Mangroves Campaign,” aimed at restoring mangrove forests along the coasts of four provinces — Kampot, Kep, Koh Kong, and Preah Sihanouk — which are vital carbon sinks for both people and wildlife.
The program received financial support from the “Strengthening Civil Society Action for Economic Governance (SCAEG)” project and the “Local Rights Programme (LRP),” implemented by CWDCC with funding support from ActionAid Cambodia and the European Union.
This initiative marks an important step in building a social movement to draw attention to marine environmental issues. The ongoing projects aim to strengthen community capacity, enabling them to become resilient environmental stewards for future generations.
