Welcome Fr. Kong Somony, the Newly Ordained Salesian Priest, to Don Bosco Kep

1–2 minutes

On the evening of Thursday, June 26, 2025, Don Bosco Technical School Kep Province warmly welcomed Father Kong Somony, the first Cambodian Salesian priest, who was recently ordained on May 31.

The welcome was celebrated with a cultural night event, attended by Father Ly Samnang, teachers, staff, students, and the Sorya boys group. The evening featured traditional Khmer dances, indigenous minority performances, and Bokator martial arts displays — all proudly showcasing Cambodian identity and heritage.

In his remarks, Father Kong Somony expressed great joy at receiving such a heartfelt welcome, saying it felt like being part of a family. He praised the students for their traditional dance performances, stating:

“These dances are artistic legacies passed down from our ancestors for future generations. Sometimes, when people abroad think of Cambodia, they only recognize Angkor Wat, but the truth is — we have so much more to offer.”

He urged the youth to preserve and uphold the values of Cambodian culture, quoting:

“When culture fades, the nation dissolves – when culture flourishes, the nation thrives.”

During the event, heartfelt gratitude was also extended to Teacher Mom Sopheaktra, the IT instructor, and Mr. Luis Cruz, a volunteer teacher in media communication. Both were honored for their valuable contributions in teaching and supporting the development of the school. Don Bosco Technical School Kep expressed appreciation and respect for the two educators for fulfilling their meaningful mission of creating an active learning environment rooted in dedication and love.
